With the goal of using the limited disk resources of the Supercomputer
system most efficiently, we have decided to set a limit on the number of
files each user can create. The file number limit is as follows.

Default file number limit: Up to 2,000,000 files
Effective from : May 11, 2010 (Monday)

Starting on May 11, when a user has the maximum number of files, he/she
will no longer be able to create new files. As for total amount of
file size, for the time being we will not set any limits.

Users can check how many files they currently have using the following
commands.

[username@amethyst ~]$ qlogin -l cpu_arch=xeon
[username@c709 ~]$ lfs quota -u [username] /home/[username]

If you try to create more files than is allowed by the limit, the following
message will be displayed.

[username@garnet]~% touch testfile
touch: cannot touch `testfile': ディスク使用量制限を超過しました(Disk
use limit has been exceeded)

Some users already exceed the default limit. We ask users who wish to
increase their file limit to please fill out and submit the “Application
Form for Excess Disk Usage” or the “Special Application Form for Excess
Disk Usage.”

By applying, you can increase your file limit.

Application for Excess Disk Usage: Up to 10,000,000 files
Special Application for Excess Disk Usage: Up to your desired number of
files

We will approve applications for excess disk usage after a simple inspection
of your application. The application is valid until deletion of the account.
We will approve special applications for excess disk usage only if we
recognize your need, after a careful examination of your reason for having
an excess number of files. We do not allow continuous use from one fiscal
year to the next.

You may submit the application for excess disk usage or the special
application for excess disk usage at any time.

Download the applications from the following URL, fill in the necessary
items, and submit applications to the following address. Only applications
submitted before April 9, 2010, will take effect from the day limits will
be introduced, May 11, 2010.
